I've been trying to create a scene with an ambient fog using an
atmospheric media, but when I can get it to render the objects in the
scene properly it's too bright and there doesn't seem to be any
attenuation of the light from the street lamps. Other times it does one
of two things: a. It blacks out the scene and nothing is visible. b. It
renders, but there's a "sticky" gray covering around everything that
clings like fifty years of dust. Not even a color variation.
I've tried perusing the preconstructed scene files that deal with
media but they don't even go into using ambient media with point lights.
I've tried setting up my media statement several different ways, I
used just about every trick I can think of which, admittedly, isn't much
considering I have to learn by trial and error. I've experimented with
every scattering type, using interval settings fro 10 to 80. I've tried
various sample permutations from 1, 10 to 5, 15. I've tried different
ratio setting between 0.5 and 0.9. And several different density
statements and color maps.
I've looked all over the internet for tutorials that pertain to
media, but none of the sites that I found even dealt with Pov-ray 3.1,
only prior versions, or third party implementations.
Does anybody have an idea of what I might be doing wrong? Or, at
least where I can get some detailed information on the use of media?
